Amenia woman arrested for Forgery, Grand Larceny and Falsifying Business Records

Washington, New York – On September 19, 2017, Troopers from the Poughkeepsie barracks arrested Abigail M. Murphy, age 26, of Amenia, NY, for nine counts of Forgery in the 2nd Degree, a class D Felony, Grand Larceny 3rd Degree a class D Felony and nine counts of Falsifying Business Records in the 1st Degree, a Class E Felony.

Wes’ Autobody on State Route 44 in the Town of Washington reported fraudulent activity to the State Police on September 16, 2017.  State Police investigation then found Murphy had created nine fraudulent business checks and forged the owner’s signature.  Murphy then cashed the checks at the Bank of Millbrook totaling $7500.  The Bank of Millbrook aided the State Police throughout the investigation and provided photographic evidence of Murphy cashing the checks.

Murphy was arraigned before the Town of Pleasant Valley Justice Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $20,000 cash bail or $40,000 property bond.  If waived, Murphy is scheduled to appear before the Town of Washington Justice Court on September 22, 2017 at 10:00 AM.
