Obituary, Gerald Joseph (Gerry) Marshall

 

Gerald Joseph (Gerry) Marshall of Dover Plains, NY, passed away on Wednesday, September 13, 2017 surrounded by his children. Born on November 29, 1946 in Poughkeepsie, NY he was the son of the late Sylvester and Margaret (Livingston) Marshall.

In addition to his parents, Gerry was predeceased by a sister, Shirley, and his beloved wife Diane (Brill) Marshall predeceased him. Gerry lost the love of his love life, Diane of 43 years on December 18, 2012.

Gerry is survived by his twin daughters, born on Father’s Day, Stacy Marshall of Dover Plains, NY, Tracy Wilcox and her husband, Art, of Wassaic, NY, and a son, Stephen Marshall of Pleasant Valley, NY. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Madison Goldson of Dover Plains, NY, Isabella Wilcox of Wassaic, NY and Adam Koskowski of Long Island, NY; a sister, Catherine Lorraine Winnie of Milton, NY and several nieces and nephews. Gerry had a special place in his heart for his niece, Dawn VanBrink of Chelsea, NY. Gerry’s newest member of the family, his black lab, Lorna, will forever be “daddy’s girl.”

Gerry grew up in Pleasant Valley NY, moving to Germantown, NY, to raise his family. Gerry’s pride and joy was the love of working on cars. Employed at Syracuse Truck Sales in Germantown, NY, he enjoyed working on the OshKosh trucks. He loved the winter when he could get in one and head out to plow.

After the passing of his wife, Gerry moved to Dover Plains, NY to live with his daughter, his “little girl,” Stacy. During that time, not only were they father and daughter, but they became each other’s sidekick. Gerry enjoyed drag racing, he won several trophies at both Lebanon Valley and the old Dover Drag Strip back in his prime days.

Gerry’s real passion was his love for hunting. Gerry was an avid hunter from an early age up to becoming ill. Gerry’s favorite times were hunting in Pleasant Valley, NY with is grandson Adam. He would always tell the story of Adam missing his shot at a deer on one of their hunting trips and forever being nicknamed “dead eye.” Gerry also loved the times spent out on the farm in Pleasant Valley, NY with his dear lifelong friends, Steve and Bob Albrecht aka “the boys.” He’d spend many days with them fixing a tractor, bailing hay and just talking of old times. Gerry was a hardworking man all his life. He was a good provider, loving husband, and an all-around family man. Sometimes a man of few words, but the best dad and husband anyone could ask for.
Burial will be at the privacy of the family.
