Drunken Driving Arrests Recorded by Putnam Sheriff’s Office

Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports that the Sheriff’s Office recorded four drunken driving arrests in August. The arrests occurred in Southeast and Carmel.

On August 7, at about 4:44 a.m., Deputy Ronald Yeager was dispatched to a report of a suspicious vehicle parked along North Brewster Road in the Town of Southeast. Upon arriving on the scene, Deputy Yeager observed a male sitting in the vehicle’s driver’s seat, with the vehicle’s keys in the ignition and the vehicle’s engine running. The deputy consequently discovered that the driver of the car, Mr. Yerlin Giron, aged 29, of Danbury, Connecticut, was allegedly intoxicated. Mr. Giron was arrested for driving while intoxicated (“DWI”), a misdemeanor, and was booked at the Sheriff’s Office headquarters in Carmel.

On August 8, at about 8:52 p.m., Deputies Chad Demarzo, Christopher Irwin and Jonathan Irwin were dispatched to a reported dispute in progress at a house on Alan Drive in the Mahopac Falls section of the Town of Carmel. During the investigation of that incident, deputies spotted one of the reported disputants, Ms. Kerry Massi, aged 54, of Carmel, driving away from the scene. The deputies stopped her vehicle and consequently determined that she was allegedly intoxicated. Ms. Massi was arrested for DWI, a misdemeanor, and was processed at the Sheriff’s Office in Carmel.

On August 12, at about 8:08 a.m., Deputy Kevin Osika observed a vehicle driver commit a traffic infraction on U.S Route 6 in the Town of Carmel. Deputy Osika pulled the vehicle over and discovered that the driver, Ms. Jessica Santoro, aged 29, of Shrub Oak, was allegedly intoxicated. Due to a previous New York State DWI conviction in 2015, Ms. Santoro was charged with a felony DWI count, based upon a previous DWI conviction. She was booked at the Sheriff’s Office and arraigned before Justice Mole in The Town of Patterson Justice Court, sitting on behalf of the Town of Carmel Justice Court. The judge remanded her to the Putnam County Correctional Facility in lieu of $500.00 bail, which was posted later that day to secure her release pending further action in the Town of Carmel Justice Court.

On August 23, at about 10:47 p.m., Deputy Ryan McMahon stopped a vehicle for traffic infractions along U.S. Route 6 in the Town of Carmel. During that stop, the deputy determined that the driver, Mr. Lawrence McKeon, aged 61, of New Milford, Connecticut, was allegedly intoxicated. Mr. McKeon was arrested for misdemeanor DWI and booked at the Sheriff’s Office.
