Obituary, Ellen Mary Turner

Millerton – Ellen Mary Turner, 68, formerly of Poughkeepsie and Long Island, died September 6th, 2017 at home after battling cancer. She was the wife of Thomas Rick Turner.

Ellen was born on December 7th, 1948, the daughter of Anthony and Kathleen (Murphy) DiVeto. On December 30th, 1972 in Lindenhurst, NY, she married Rick. In 1974, they moved to Poughkeepsie where they resided for 36 years. For many years Ellen was an English teacher at the Dover Middle School. Ellen was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening and her beloved dogs.

Along with her husband of 44 years, Ellen is survived by her daughters, Kathleen and husband Nathan Seversky; Annie and husband Patrick Winchester; and son, Richard Turner. She leaves 4 special grandchildren, Kate and Ryan Seversky, baby Jameson Winchester (due in November), and Kyle Turner. She also leaves her brother Anthony and wife Cynthia DiVeto, as well as the extended Turner family, especially Judy and Alan Cass.

The family would like to thank the medical staff at Sharon Hospital, particularly Dr. Joseph Catena and Dr. Christina Gomez of Smilow Cancer Center.

Calling hours will be at 41 Main Street in Sharon Ct. on Saturday, September 16th from Noon to 2pm with a prayer service to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Dutchess County SPCA.
