Two-Car Milan Crash Investigated

The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office reports the investigation into a two-car serious crash which occurred on
State Route 199 in the Town of Milan at approximately 7:00 am on 8/30/17.

On the above date and time Sheriff’s Deputies responded to Route 199 near Wilcox Park in Milan for a report of a serious crash, and upon arrival observed it to be a two-car crash with one ejection. Preliminary investigation has shown that a 1999 Subaru Legacy operated by Steven Destefano (age 35 of New Windsor, NY) was traveling eastbound on Route 199 when crossed over the center pavement markings and struck a westbound 2015 Nissan Versa operated by Andrew Pierce (age 48 of Pine Plains). Mr. Destefano was ejected and airlifted to Albany Medical Center with serious, but not believed to be life-threatening, injuries. Mr. Pierce was transported by ambulance to Mid Hudson Regional Hosptial with minor injuries. Both operators were the only occupants of their respective vehicles, and evidence shows that Mr. Pierce was wearing a seatbelt while Mr. Destefano was not.
The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Milan Fire Department and Northern Dutchess Paramedics. The investigation into the accident is continuing by members of the Sheriff’s Office Crash Investigation Unit, and more information may be released as it becomes available.
