Local Students Receive Merit Scholarships

 

ONEONTA, NY (08/16/2017)– More than 300 new freshman and transfer students have been awarded merit scholarships to attend SUNY Oneonta beginning in the fall 2017 semester. The award amounts range from $1,000 to $8,000 per year.

The following area students received scholarships:

Dominique Cancel of Poughquag, NY, received the Presidential Award for Diversity and Leadership in the amount of $6,470 annually. Cancel, a graduate of Arlington Senior High School, plans to major in Mass Communication.

Elizabeth Holmes of Pine Plains, NY, received the Oneonta Promise in the amount of $5,000 annually. Holmes, a graduate of Stissing Mountain Junior/Senior High School, plans to major in Adolescence Education: Social Studie.

Stephanie Mascetta of Dover Plains, NY, received the Deans Scholarship in the amount of $3,000 annually. Mascetta, a graduate of Dover Junior/Senior High School, plans to major in Professional Accounting.

Emma Noyes of Poughquag, NY, received the Presidential Award for Academic Distinction in the amount of $6,470 annually. Noyes, a graduate of Arlington Senior High School, plans to major in Digital & Studio Art.

Rachel Wahlers of Holmes, NY, received the Presidential Award for Academic Distinction in the amount of $6,470 annually. Wahlers, a graduate of Carmel High School, plans to major in Early Childhood/Childhood Education.

Located in the hills of Central New York, SUNY Oneonta is a mid-size, public, liberal arts and sciences college with a pre-professional focus. The college enrolls approximately 6,000 students in a wide variety of bachelor’s degree programs and a number of graduate certificates and degrees.
