Obituary, Joesph Duffy

 


, a long-time resident of Pawling and Amenia, NY, most recently of Williamstown, MA, passed away Monday, August 14, 2017 at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center, Bennington, VT at the age of 89.

Born in Sharon, CT on March 1, 1928, he was one of six children born to Henry and Margaret (Lynch) Duffy.  Joe served in the US Navy during the Korean War, stationed in Guam.

He married Barbara Nettleton on July 25, 1953 in Fulton, NY.  They moved to Pawling from Amenia in 1954.  Joe was a train dispatcher at Grand Central Station, NYC until he went to work as an insurance agent for the Charles R. Daniels Agency, Inc. in Pawling, where he worked until he retired after 31 years.

Joe was a past member of St. John’s Church, Pawling, where he served many years as a lector and eucharistic minister, the Knights of Columbus, the Hasler-Kamp Post American Legion, the Pawling Lion’s Club, the CPCU National Insurance Association, where he served as president, and an exempt member of the Pawling Fire Department.

Joe is survived by his wife Barbara; his son David (Jan) Duffy of Rockport, MA and daughter Colleen (Tony) McDonald of Cambridge, NY; six grandchildren, Brian and Sean Duffy, and Jennifer (Duffy) Lane, and Joseph, Killian, and Bridget McDonald; a great-granddaughter, Aili Lane; a sister, Alice Page of New Cannan, CT; and many nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his two brothers, John and Francis, and his two sisters, Mary Morrisroe and Margaret Quinn

.Friends may call at the Horn & Thomes, Inc. Funeral Home, 83 East Main Street, Pawling, Sunday, August 20th 4-8 PM.  There will be a Lion’s Club service at 4 PM, a Pawling Fire Department service at 4:10, a Legion service at 4:15, and a Knight’s service at 4:30  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 11 AM at St. John’s Church, 39 East Main Street, Pawling.  Burial will follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Amenia, NY.
