Union Vale man dies following tree felling accident

Union Vale, New York – On August 8, 2017 at approximately 11:22 a.m., Troopers were dispatched by Dutchess County 911 to assist EMS with a subject reported to be pinned underneath a fallen tree.An investigation revealed that a 38-year-old Union Vale man was felling trees with a chainsaw, clearing a vacant parcel of land located on Mallory Road. The victim was subsequently struck and became pinned underneath the large tree.  First responders arrived on scene and immediately attempted to remove the victim from underneath the tree.  He subsequently lost consciousness and troopers, assisted by EMStar EMS, commenced life saving measures.

The victim was transported to Mid-Hudson Region Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The incident remains under investigation and appears to be accidental in nature.

The State Police were assisted by the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office.  Also responding to the scene were Union Vale Rescue Squad, the Union Vale Fire Department and EMStar Ambulance.
