Canaan – Helene S. Brinker, 97, formerly of Millerton, NY, Great Barrington, MA and West Hartford, CT, died Friday August 4 at Geer Village where she had been a resident for three years.
Helene was a homemaker, hairdresser and restaurateur during her varied career, serving Millerton as Village Trustee, Deputy Mayor and Mayor. She also spent many years volunteering at schools and organizing day-camp programs for children during summers at Millerton’s Denny Pool.
She was born in New Boston, Massachusetts, daughter of Arturo and Josephine Filipetti who predeceased her. She was also predeceased by her husbands Marshall Stapleton and Dr. John Brinker; and a son, Eugene Stapleton.
She is survived by a daughter Candace (James) Tierney of Bethesda, MD; and sons Howard (Margo) Stapleton of Colorado; Robert Stapleton of South Carolina; and William (Linda) Brinker of Great Barrington, MA; 12 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
SERVICES: There are no calling hours; services were private.
Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Millerton Fire Company.
