Greenburgh, New York – On August 5, 2017, New York State Police from the Hawthorne barracks were dispatched to a two-car collision that occurred on the Sprain Brook Parkway in the vicinity of Jackson Avenue.

An investigation indicates that William L. Collins, age 47, of Yorktown, New York, was operating a Honda CR-V northbound in the center lane.  Dereck B. Coffee, 48 years old, of Atlanta, Georgia, was traveling northbound in the right lane at a high rate of speed.  Coffee attempted to move into the center lane of travel and struck the rear of Collin’s SUV.  Coffee lost control of the 2001 Ford Ranger he was operating and struck the median guide rail.  Coffee’s vehicle continued down an embankment, rolling over several times before coming to rest.

Coffee was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Westchester County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Collins and his passengers declined medical attention at the scene of the crash.

The collision remains under investigation.  The State Police ask anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact the Bureau of Criminal Investigation in Hawthorne by calling (914) 769-2600.
