Obituary, Dennis H.”Butch” Hollingsworth

Clinton Corners – Dennis H.”Butch” Hollingsworth, age 74, passed into the hands of God on Thursday, July 27, 2017, at his home in Clinton Corners with his loving family by his side. Born in Des Moines, Iowa, on January 30,1943, he is the son of Howard W. and Kathryn Mae (Collins) Hollingsworth, who welcome him home.

Butch spent his entire adult life in the Hudson Valley, which he loved. He often referred to Clinton Corners as “God’s Country.” Since childhood, Butch was fearless and “marched to the beat of his own drum” and his strong will and determination would serve him well throughout his life. Left handicapped by a car accident at the age of 20, Butch had to overcome many obstacles in his life, including three major brain surgeries, and did so without complaint, resentment or self pity. He worked tirelessly to support his family and was proud to retire from IBM. In doing so, he taught us all a lot about courage. Good natured and generous with his time and spirit, Butch was often seen tinkering around the house or helping a friend or neighbor. A handyman, he could do wonders with vice grips and a roll of duct tape. Fiercely loyal, he was a devoted husband and proud father who loved God and his country, and who lived at the core of a loving, close knit family until the end. Nothing ever stood in his way, despite his physical limitations. Butch was truly one of a kind, who was loved by many and who will be missed by all.

Butch is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Laura Lee, of Clinton Corners; his son, Scott and his partner Julieann Morano of Clinton Corners; his daughter, Kelly and her husband Barry Muller of Wappingers Falls; his sister, Sharon and her husband Jack Cooper of Bangall; his brother Bobby of Hyde Park; his sister-in-law, Sandy and her husband Jack O’Sullivan of Lagrange; three granddaughters, Briana and Anna Bocchino of Wappingers Falls, and Skylar Hollingsworth of Clinton Corners; two grandsons, Corey Hollingsworth of Clinton Corners and Ryan Bocchino, who is now serving his country in Iraq; three nieces, Teri, Lori, and Meaghan, and two nephews, Tim and Bart. Several great nieces and nephews, and many cousins and friends mourn his loss.

A memorial service will be held at 5:00pm on August 4th at the Evangelical Free Church in Clinton Corners, and his family invites all friends to attend this celebration of his life. Pastor Jeff Silvius will preside and food and refreshments will be served afterwards. Butch’s family also wishes to thank Allen Funeral Home of Pleasant Valley, and the caregivers at Northern Dutchess Hospital and Hospice, who helped to make Butch comfortable in his final days. They also ask that donations be made to the Evangelical Free Church, in lieu of flowers.
