Obituary, Henry Dykeman Jr.

Henry Dykeman Jr. was called to rest on Sunday, July 30, 2017.   A lifelong area resident, he was born March 9, 1928 to the late Henry Dykeman Sr. & Velma Ellis Dykeman.

He and his wife Jean Wright Dykeman celebrated 70 years of marriage this past April 13th.  They have three children:  Ginger Sheldon (Scott), Sandra Matyka (Dennis Abrams), and Wright Dykeman (Beth).

“Pops” loved and supported the activities and dreams of 6 grandchildren: Julie Sheldon, Alanda Babbitt (Greg),  Jason Sheldon, Candy Osborn (Scott), Henry Dykeman (Mandy), and Daniel Sheldon (Marianne), as well 8 great grandchildren: Jordan, Brooke, Nathan,  Ana, Andrew, Jacob, Mason, and Lily, AND he was “Pops” to so, so many more!

Each day, “Pops” lifted his eyes to the mountains, surrounding his second-generation farm, and found his help from the Lord, maker of heaven & earth.  He was known for the best sweet corn and the freshest vegetables.  Generations of children will remember “Farmer Hank” always for the hayrides in the pumpkin patch and his never-ending stories about Indian corn and spoon gourds. He was forever proud that his son, Wright, and grandson, Henry, will carry on his love for the farm for a third & fourth generation.

Henry is a life member of Central Baptist Church of Pawling and an affiliate of Dover First Baptist Church in Wingdale.  He has served his Lord in leadership roles as Trustee and Deacon, but more importantly he has served as a role model to his family, friends and community.

For many years, Henry & Jean wintered in Jensen Beach, Florida.  Henry loved to surf fish for pompano and chat with everyone on the beach.

In his younger years, he was a Pawling High athlete, a dart ball champion with the National Grange league, and an avid bowler and sportsman.

One of his favorite charities was The Pawling Resource Center.

Calling hours will be at Horn & Thomes, Inc. Funeral Home, 83 East Main Street, Pawling NY Wednesday, August 2, 2017 from 5-8 PM.  A funeral service will be conducted on Thursday at 11 AM at the Central Baptist Church of Pawling, East Main Street; burial will follow in Pawling Cemetery.
