Obituary, Louise Thebault McDermott

Brooklyn – Born in Flatlands, Brooklyn, NY to Charles Thebault and Kjersten Petersen Thebault, she attended elementary school (class valedictorian), high school, and Brooklyn College where she earned a degree in economics. Member of the Flatlands Dutch Reformed Church (center on the church basketball team) until she married William P. McDermott, Ph. D. in 1957 and moved to Uniondale, Long Island in 1960. Employed by the Bank of New York from 1952 as its first female estate tax accountant until she left in 1963 to begin a family. Moved to Clinton Corners, NY in 1966, where she raised two children, Kerry (Dover, NH) and Eileen McDermott Laramie (Tolland, CT), both teachers with Master’s degree in mathematics and education, respectively. Subsequently moved to Tolland, CT to be closer to Eileen’s family (husband Lloyd E Laramie, Jr), where she could watch her two grandchildren, Kierra Irene Laramie and Karissa Louise Laramie grow up and be a significant part of their lives. She was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church 1966-2017, Salt Point, NY. Primarily a homemaker since 1963, she volunteered (1982-2017) teaching remedial reading. Board member, PTA (President), Garden Club, library (treasurer), Fire department (treasurer), Clinton Historical Society (treasurer) and several other organizations. She led a team of women who raised al the funds needed to convert a corn field in to a 14 acre park for children and adult sports and recreation (1977-1980). Office manager 1967-1997, for husband’s Clinical Psychologist practice. Central to the acquisition of the Clinton Museum building, subsequent to which she contributed to its scheduled events. Those are some of her credits, but that she was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, and woman who was liked by everyone she met, overshadows all.
