Obituary, Duane A. Biever

 

 

POUGHKEEPSIE – Duane A. Biever, a long-time resident, died unexpectedly on July 17th at Vassar Brothers Hospital.

He was an employee of the Controlex Corp. in Croton Falls, the Standard Gage Co. Of Poughkeepsie, the Western Publishing Corp. Of Poughkeepsie and the Pawling Central School, all in New York.

He was born August 22, 1931, in Alton, Iowa, the son of Alphonse B. Biever and MalvinaM. (Hentges) Biever. He was a graduate of St. Mary’s Academy in Alton, Iowa, in 1949. He was an eight year veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and later the U.S. Air force. He was a graduate of the State University. Of Iowa in 1961 and attended the University of Vermont.

He was married to Lucille Boucher on August 22, 1964, in Burlington, Vermont

He was a parishioner of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church of Poughkeepsie since 1964, and was a member of the Dutchess County Historical Society and the Mid-Hudson Computer User Group. In 1997 he authored, copyrighted and published a book about the city of Poughkeepsie during the Civil War years entitled ” Old Poughkeepsie – 1865.

Survivors include his wife, Lucille, and a daughter Jeanne, of Poughkeepsie; A sister Opal Chaussende-Bardoux, of Paris and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, July 25, 2017, 4-8 PM at, 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY12603. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at 10 AM in Holy Trinity Church, 775 Main St., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. Burial will follow in the family plot in Calvary Cemetery in Poughkeepsie, NY.
