Obituary, Fred Marr

Millbrook – Fred Marr grew up during the Depression in Greenwich, CT, served in the Navy, worked for IBM for 30 years, and, most important to him, married and raised a family in Yorktown, NY, before moving to Millbrook, NY.

He had a kind word for every stranger he came across and a knack for turning them into friends. He was Uncle Fred, the elder of the annual golf reunion. Poppy would envelop his dozen grandchildren with a hug so warm and gentle that it would stay with them. Having him as a father-in-law was a marital bonus for Jerry, Debbie, Mindy, Traci and Marissa. To his daughter Susan Crean and four sons Chuck, Doug, Scott and David, he was such a good Dad, a father who was always there, a source of strength and unconditional love and, boy, was he fun. He never missed a game, especially if a Marr was playing or coaching. And, what a husband. For 61 years, he was the world for his beloved wife Dorothy.

At any event, he always wanted to be the last to leave. So full of life and love, even at 86, his family feels he left far too soon. But he did leave behind wonderful memories to cherish and a role model and legacy of pure decency.

Viewing hours will be at 3270 Franklin Ave, Millbrook, on Friday. Services will be Saturday. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Boys and Girls Club of America (bgca.org), a place where Fred felt fortunate to have spent many happy hours during his childhood.
