Obituary, Charles Alva Hoyt

 

Charles Alva Hoyt, a long time Millbrook resident passed away on Monday, June 19, 2017. Born on Sept.26, 1931 in Middletown CT., he was the son of Carlyle and Agnes Paige Hoyt. He was a professor of English literature, author and musician with degrees from Wesleyan and Columbia. Specializing in the Romantic movement and Shakespeare, he was also interested in the study of the Occult and author of a textbook on the history of witchcraft. Charles was also an accomplished jazz pianist and played locally for many years, most notably with the Frivolous Sal’s Last Chance Saloon Jazz Band. He is survived by 5 sons, and 8 grandchildren. Visitation will be held at 3270 Franklin Ave.,  Millbrook NY from 4 to 7 pm on Friday, June 23. Burial will be private in Nine Partners Cemetery, Millbrook. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
