On June 13th, Shakespeare Club members attended a preview performance of the rolling world premier of “The Book of Will.” Twenty one club members and guests were entranced by this original work by Lauren Gunderson, as well as the performances of the extraordinary cast .The Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival and it’s management team were instrumental in assisting the Pawling Shakespeare Club with the planning and execution of the group’s attendance to this event.  Assistant Director of The Book of Will, Daniel Hasse, attended the year end club luncheon on Monday, June 12, at Le Fontane in Katonah, NY., where he spoke to PSC members about the upcoming performance .
“The Book of Will,”  tells the tale of the gathering of all the varied and ephemeral pieces of Shakespeare’s plays, and the struggle of financing and printing, the first copy of the Bard’s complete works.  Taking place three years after Shakespeare’s death, the story explores the intense emotional attachment of Shakespeare’s theater company to the memory of Will Shakespeare and to each other.
“The Book of Will”, ably directed by HVSF Artistic Director Davis McCallum, runs through the summer in repertory with other offerings, including Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night and the world premier of an adaptation of Pride and Prejudice by Kate Hamill.
