Join the Excitement of Walkway Marathon Weekend!

The third annual Walkway Marathon weekend is almost upon us, bringing thousands of competitors and spectators to Dutchess County for Saturday and Sunday’s events.

WalkwayMarathonPacketDutchess County Government is proud to be a partner in the Walkway Marathon weekend, which includes Saturday’s“ThinkDIFFERENTLY” Dash through the City of Poughkeepsie for individuals of all abilities, as well as Sunday’s “College to College” 5K race, and Walkway half-marathon and full marathon, the majority of which will be hosted by our award-winning William R. Steinhaus Dutchess Rail Trail.

Numerous Dutchess County Government departments and divisions have been working and preparing since last year’s Walkway Marathon to ensure this weekend’s events run as smoothly and safely as possible. Those county departments and divisions include:

  • Department of Behavioral & Community Health
  • Department of Emergency Response
  • Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office
  • Department of Public Works’ Public Transit and Parks Divisions
  • Department of Planning and Development’s Solid Waste Management Division
  • Dutchess County Water and Wastewater Authority
  • Medical Reserve Corps of Dutchess County

In addition more than 450 organizers and volunteers have been working to make this Walkway Marathon weekend the best yet! We thank them for their hard work and effort for this extraordinary event.

Given this weekend’s forecast, it’s recommended runners hydrate the night before their race, continuously while running and after they cross the finish line. Light, loose-mesh clothing should also be worn to better deal with potentially hot weather. First aid and medical personnel will be available throughout the race courses, so please consult with them if you have any concerns.

You can be part of the success! Even if you’re not taking part in one of this weekend’s races, you can still be part of the fun by coming out and supporting the competitors — whether you cheer for your loved one, a friend, a neighbor or a runner from half-way across the globe! You’re invited to come out and show the thousands of participants the sense of community that makes us distinctly Dutchess.

Whether you’re running in a race, volunteering or coming to cheer, all the information you need about the Walkway Marathon weekend is available online in the Walkway Marathon 2017 Official Program.

While you’re enjoying the fun of Walkway Marathon weekend, be sure to snap some photos and post them on social media, using the #WalkwayMarathon hashtag to let the rest of the world know what a great time you’re having!
