Emily Y. Schmiedel, 90, a longtime resident of New Fairfield, CT, died on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at Gladeview Health and Rehabilitation Center in Old Saybrook, CT. Mrs. Schmiedel was an executive secretary at Union Carbide in New York in her younger years and later at Dow Chemical in Danbury, CT.
Born on July 1, 1926 in Barnesboro, PA, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Ann (Polidrap) Sheredy. On May 28, 1955 in Bronx, NY she married John J. Schmiedel who predeceased her on January 31, 2001. Mrs. Schmiedel was a longtime member of St. Edward the Confessor Roman Catholic Church in New Fairfield, CT.
She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Schmiedel of Centerbrook, CT; her son, John Russell Schmiedel of San Francisco, CA and three grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Schmiedel was predeceased by seven sisters and one brother, Magdalene Neuner, Margaret Mazurkevich, Josephine Zemrose, Catherine MacKenzie, Leona Carr, Mary Sheredy, Helen Regly and Stanley Sheredy.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 5, 2017 at St. Edward the Confessor Roman Catholic Church, 21 Brush Hill Rd, New Fairfield, CT. Burial will follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Danbury, CT.
