Art Exhibit: Point in Time

Works by Daisy Dodge at Studio Around the Corner

The Cultural Arts Coalition is thrilled to present Point in Time, works by Daisy Dodge, at Studio Around the Corner.

Daisy Dodge graduated from the Columbus College of Art & Design in Columbus, Ohio with a BFA in Advertising Design, with Illustration & Printmaking focus.

She loves to take common objects and present them in an uncommon way. Each piece starts with an idea, then it takes on a life of itself and morphs into something else. Relying on a combination of technical precision and happy accident, each piece forms its own personality through the process of its creation. This is true of both her collage pieces as well as her paintings. Daisy wants to draw people in and have them connect to her work.

In her paintings, Daisy starts with collaged papers, fabrics and textures, then layers acrylic paints and glazes to form a color-bursting background upon which the object is then applied. A single subject, an everyday object, is a consistent theme in Daisy’s paintings, allowing the viewer to have steady focus of the exaggerated detail in the object while getting swallowed up in the carnival of color exhibited in each piece.

In her collage work, she combines a collection of antique and modern-day baubles, trinkets and found objects in an assemblage that attracts the eye. Each piece is completely unique, and draws the viewer in for a closer look. People find themselves getting lost in the sparkle & splendor of every nook and cranny. Some of the items spark nostalgia in viewers, as they recall an earring their grandma wore, or an old refrigerator magnet from their childhood; discarded or left behind on their way to a landfill. These pieces give life to forgotten treasures.

In addition to painting, Daisy also enjoys quilting, drawing, and working in stained glass.

Daisy has been in several juried competitions, and continues to build her career as a fine artist. Her work can be viewed at www.daisydodgeart.com. She lives in Carmel, NY with her husband, Michael and her feline daughter, Janice.
