DCC Celebrates 58th Commencement

More Than 1,100 Students Graduate


Graduates await the beginning of DCC’s 58th Commencement


May 19, 2017 – Dutchess Community College held its annual graduation ceremony May 18. Associate degrees and career certificates in 48 programs of study were conferred on 1,142 graduates, who ranged in age from 18 to 68. The graduation ceremony was held at the Mid-Hudson Civic Center with almost 4,000 in attendance.

Associate in Science degrees were awarded to 59 percent of the students; 18 percent received Associate in Arts degrees; 19 percent received Associate in Applied Science degrees; and
4 percent earned certificates.

In her commencement welcome address, Dr. Pamela Edington, DCC president, congratulated the graduates and challenged them to make an impact.

“As you graduate from Dutchess Community College today, go into the world confident in your abilities to create a better tomorrow – and committed to doing so,” said Edington.

Other speakers included DCC Board of Trustees Chair Thomas LeGrand, County Executive and DCC alum Marcus Molinaro and Dutchess County Poet Laureate Bettina “Gold” Wilkerson.

At a May 17 Honors Convocation, 165 students either starting their second year at DCC or graduating and entering four-year colleges in the fall, were recognized for outstanding achievements and received scholarships totaling more than $170,000. More than $1.5 million in scholarships has been awarded by the DCC Foundation in the Convocation ceremonies since they began 20 years ago. The scholarships are funded by individuals and organizations to reward academic excellence.
