“Blessing Our Sacred Places: An Interfaith Celebration”

 

Millbrook NY— Members of the public are invited to join leaders and members of various faith traditions in an interfaith celebration of the bounty and beauty of creation on Sunday May 21, 2017, at 10:30am at Innisfree Garden.

The interfaith celebration of God’s creation will include music, readings, and a blessing of fields and seeds (people are welcome to bring packets of seeds to be blessed).

This event is sponsored by Grace Episcopal Church in Millbrook and Innisfree Garden in Millbrook. Dr. Joshua Ginsberg, President, Cary Institute for Ecological Studies, Millbrook, is this year’s featured speaker. Participating religious leaders include the Rev. Dr. Matthew Calkins, Grace Church Millbrook; Dr. Umar M. Ahmad and Imam Hafiz Badar Usman, Mid-Hudson Islamic Center, Wappingers Falls; Shamu Sadeh, Adamah Farm and Isabella Freedman Jewish Retreat Center, Falls Village, CT;  Donna Coane (Ohstonha Ohskennonoton), Leader and Healer, Schaghticoke First Nation, Kent CT; and Lama Depa and Lama Lhadron, Kagyu Thubten Choling Monastery, Wappingers Falls.

“Blessing Our Sacred Places” is free and open to the public. Donations are accepted in support of Innisfree Garden and Dutchess Interfaith Council. The “Farms and Chef Food Truck” of Le Express Restaurant will have lunch available for purchase. Picnicking is also encouraged; picnic tables are available overlooking the Garden. Innisfree is located at 362 Tyrrel Road Millbrook NY. The Garden will be open until 2 p.m.

This initiative seeks to grow community, nourish dialogue, and plant the future by connecting members of various food, farm, and faith communities in New York’s Hudson Valley through events and partnerships.
