PRESS RELEASE

Guilderland, NY – On Saturday, May 13, 2017, at approximately 3:59 a.m., State Police responded to a report of a Tractor Trailer vs. Pedestrian serious motor vehicle accident I-90, near Exit 25 (Schenectady). The accident involved a female pedestrian and a 2008 Peterbilt Tractor Trailer. 
 
 
***UPDATED – NAMES AND DESCRIPTION***
The victim traveling westbound on I-90, in the Town of Guilderland with one additional female occupant. The vehicle a 2003 Nissan Altima which was parked on the right shoulder of the westbound lane of I-90 for unknown reason. The passenger identified as Mariah M. Surgick, 11/03/98 of Schenectady, NY exits the vehicle from the passenger side and attempted to cross the Thruway. Surgick walks southbound into the roadway and is struck by a passing tractor trailer traveling westbound in the center lane. Surgick was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Albany County Coroner.  The accident is being reconstructed by the New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) and (CVEU) Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit and is still under investigation. The driver of the Peterbilt tractor trailer was not injured.
