Obituary, Helen Mallen

 

Helen Mallen, 89, a life-time resident of the Poughquag area, passed away Monday, May 1, 2017 at Vassar Brothers Hospital, Poughkeepsie, NY.

Born in Greenhaven, NY on November 24, 1927, she was the daughter of the late John and Sarah (Hughes) Kernaghan, and wife of Kenneth Mallen, who survives at home in Poughquag.

Helen was a former Beekman Fire warden whose job it was to issue burning permits.  She attended the Poughquag Methodist Church and was an avid NY Yankee fan, but her greatest joy was cooking for her family and taking care of her husband, children, and grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son John Mallen and his wife, Cecilia, of Red Hook, NY, two daughters, Suanne Monteiro and her husband, Andrew, of Chatham, NY and Theresa Stack and her husband, Richard, of Amherst, NH; her sister, Elizabeth Smeardon of Hopewell Junction, NY; and three grandchildren, Catherine & Ryan Stack and Alicia Monteiro.

Family and friends may call at the Horn & Thomes, Inc. Funeral Home, 83 East Main Street, Pawling, NY Thursday, May 4, 2017 5-7 PM.  A funeral service will be conducted Friday, May 5th at 10 AM at the Poughquag Methodist Church, Poughquag.

Burial will be private.
