Lyme Tick-Borne Diseases: A Scientific, Legislative and Political Update
By Donald Partelow
Dr. Kenneth Liegner, author of In the Crucible of Chronic Lyme Disease, appeared at the Pawling Library on April 25th. Throughout America and the world people are contracting Lyme disease. Many of those who joined us for this presentation have had Lyme disease. Some individuals who were exposed to the disease years past have yet to recover. This was a very informal gathering and Dr. Liegner encouraged the audience to speak up if they had a question and hands quickly raised and continued to do so throughout the evening.  There was concern regarding what one can do if exposed to the disease. The doctor explained prevention methods and a variety of treatments and stressed at the end of his presentation that greater funding is needed for research.  Dr. Liegner is quite renowned in this field. He explained that the medical establishment is slow to change in the acceptance of Chronic Lyme disease. Patients are receiving better healthcare today but there is still a long way to go.
