Obituary, William S. Hunt

 

Hyde Park – William S. Hunt, 89, a longtime Hyde Park resident (who lived for several years in Ft. Myers, Florida) died on Friday, April 28, 2017 at his home.

Born on October 2, 1927 in Columbia County, he was the son of the late William R. Hunt and Viola Palmatier Hunt. Bill attended Pine Plains schools.

Mr. Hunt worked at IBM in Poughkeepsie for 38 years until his retirement.

He was a congregant of the Reformed Dutch Church of Hyde Park.

Bill was a life-member and formerly served on the Board of Directors of the Hyde Park Fire Department. He was also active with the Hyde Park Rescue Squad.

He enjoyed spending time hunting and fishing and was a Charter Member and former Board Member of the Ancram Land Owner’s Association Gun Club.

On June 25, 1949 in Ancram, he married the former Harriet Miller. Mrs. Hunt predeceased him on June 22, 2015.

Bill is survived by his son, William Hunt, and his wife, Kathleen, of Ancram; son, David Hunt, of Hyde Park; son, Daniel Hunt, of Hyde Park; five grandchildren: William C. Hunt, and his wife, Jamie; Stewart G. Hunt, and his wife, Stephanie; David Hunt, Jr., and his wife, Nicole; Brian Hunt, and his wife, Heather; and Stephan Hunt, and his wife, Tara; seven great-grandchildren: Caylen, Emma, Brian, Aidan, Emily, Josh and Hailey; sister, Helen Berrian, and her husband, Charles, of Florida; sister, Betty Eckerline, and her husband, Bill, of Sunnyvale, CA; sister, Jean Slavick, and her husband, Richard, of Hyde Park; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be from 4-7pm on Wednesday, May 3rd at 4365 Albany Post Rd, Hyde Park. The Hyde Park Fire Dept. will conduct services during the visitation.

A funeral service will be at 11am on Thursday, May 4th at the funeral home. Rev. John Needham will be officiating.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation will take place. Burial of his ashes will be at the convenience of the family in the family plot at Union Cemetery of Hyde Park.
