Obituary, Sophie Cyganovich

 

 

Sophie Cyganovich, 95 years old, of Endicott ascended to heaven on April 6, 2017 to celebrate her favorite holiday, Easter, with those who predeceased her including her husband, John and son, Jerome and her brothers, Frank and Steve Zamoiski, sisters, Caroline Wilk and Helen Koziatek. She is survived by three daughters and one son: Christine Cawley and William Casale, Pinehurst, NC, Magdalyn Cyganovich, Rochester, NY, Janette and Michael Brush, Endicott and Lawrence and Diana Cyganovich, Pawling, NY. She is also survived by several sisters-in-law; Julianna Zamoiski, Mary Tchir, Emily Kwiatkowski, Cassie Pastalan, Mary Cyganovich and brothers-in-law, Ted Andrews and Anthony Cyganovich plus numerous nieces and nephews. Special friends include the Donald Ferguson, Sam Arcangeli, James Martindale and Douglas Grassi families. She was a member of the Most Holy Rosary Church, Maine, NY. For many years, she prepared the chicken barbeque sauce for the church’s annual picnic. During World War II, Sophie helped the war effort by working in a factory making altimeters for military aircraft. Sophie was a wonderful mother and homemaker who was known for her delicious pies. She loved gardening, music, dancing, playing pinochle and her family. Sophie always had determination and even when she had mobility issues, she figured out how to cook, bake, can and make pickles for herself, family and friends.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 pm on Friday, April 21st at the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 am Saturday, April 22 at the Most Holy Rosary Church, Maine, NY. Interment will take place at a later date at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Broome County Council of Churches Ramp It Up Program, 3 Otseningo Street, Binghamton, NY 13903 or a charity of your choice .
