Gladiators sign college goalie DeLaVergne

DULUTH GEORGIA — The Atlanta Gladiators of the ECHL’s Eastern Conference Hockey League signed goaltender Mike DeLaVergne out of Buffalo State College and the 24-year-old was at practice Wednesday.

He was needed after rookie goalie and Boston Bruins draft pick Dan Vladar was injured during last Friday’s game in Florida.

DeLaVergne was the SUNYAC goalie of the year as a senior with a 1.98 goals-against average and a .927 save percentage in 25 games. He was 17-7-1, helping the Bengals to the conference tournament’s Final Four. DeLaVergne made 36 saves in a loss to No. 2 Oswego in the semis.

The Pawling, N.Y., native played 50 games over his final two seasons as Buffalo State’s No. 1 goalie with a save percentage of nearly .930.
