Obituary, Elmer S. “Rusty” Smith

 

 

Elmer S. “Rusty” Smith, 65, a life-time resident of Pawling, NY passed away Friday, January 20, 2017 at Regional Hospice, Danbury, CT.

Born in Poughkeepsie on September 7, 1951, he was the son of the late Elmer E. Smith, Jr. and Marion Webb.  Rusty graduated from Pawling High School; after graduation, he went to a trade school and became a member of Local 157 United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners.  He married Patricia Cann in St. John’s Church, Pawling on October 20, 1973.  Rusty worked as a carpenter for the N.Y.C. Housing Authority.

Rusty was a boy scout helper for many years, and an active and enthusiastic fan of his children and grandchildren’s sports. Rusty was a Friend of Bill W. for over 22 years.

He is survived by his loving wife, Pat, at home; two sons, Christopher (Jill) of LaGrangeville, NY and Timothy of Pawling; his grandchildren, Kayla and Kevin Smith of LaGrangeville; two brothers, Bruce (Jill) Smith of Ancramdale, NY and David (Jackie) Smith of Blossburg, PA; two sisters, Janet Townsend of LaGrangeville, NY and Patricia (Richard) Schaniel of Spring Hill, FL; several Godchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may call at the Horn & Thomes, Inc. Funeral Home, 83 East Main Street, Pawling Tuesday, January 24th2-4 and 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 AM at St. John’s Church, Pawling; burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Pawling.
