Obituary, The Hon. John E. King, of Putnam Lake

 

The Hon. John E. King, of Putnam Lake, NY, died Monday October 3, 2016 at Putnam Hospital Center with his family by his side. He was 72 years old.

Judge King was born October 6, 1943 in the Bronx, NY son to the late George and Lillian (Abbott) King. John graduated from Brewster High School in 1961. Following graduation John honorably served in the US Army.

John married the love of his life, Geraldine J. Lambe at St. Brigid’s Church in Brooklyn, NY. John and Geraldine have called Putnam Lake home for 49 years.

Judge King was a trooper with the New York State Police for 20 years before retiring in 1988.

Shortly after retiring he became the Town Justice with the Town of Patterson. He worked for the Town until his death. The law was his passion, be it as a trooper or judge.

John was a great man and leaves behind many stories and legacies. He was a loving husband, an amazing father and wonderful grandfather. He always put his family first.

John was a former commander of the American Legion, a past grand knight with the Knights of Columbus and the President of the Putnam County Magistrates Associate. He enjoyed being a little league coach and a cub and Boy Scout troop leader.

Besides his wife Geraldine of 49 years, John is survived by his two children, Jeffrey T. King and his wife Gabriela of Carmel, NY and Robyn L. Spennicchia and her husband Richard of Patterson, NY; five grandchildren; Nicholas, Ryan, Jamie Lynn, Sophia and Olivia. Also his brother-in- law, John Steinhardt and sisters-in- law, Mary King and Elaine Steinhardt and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and 1 great great niece. All who he loved and cherished very much. John was predeceased by his granddaughter Morgan and his siblings George, Jameson and Barbara.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday October 8, 2016 at 11am at Sacred Heart Church, Patterson, NY. Interment will follow at St. Lawrence O’Toole Cemetery, Brewster, NY. Friends and Family may call Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Avenue, Brewster on Thursday Oct 6 th and Friday Oct. 7 th from 3pm-7pm.

In lieu of flowers a donation may be made in John’s memory to the American Cancer Society, 220 Route 6, Mahopac, NY.
