September 26, 2016, Poughkeepsie, NY – Hudson Valley Home Matters (HVHM) hosts its 7th Annual forum, “Creating A Senior-Friendly Community” at The Henry A. Wallace Center, FDR’s Presidential Home and Library in Hyde Park, NY, on Wednesday, October 19th from 1-4 pm.

Many communities are already taking innovative steps to adapt to the growing number of older members.  Senior-friendly features save communities money in the long run by promoting senior health and independence.

Guest speakers at the forum are Greg Olson, Executive Deputy Director for New York State Office for the Aging; and Paul Beyer, Director of Smart Growth Planning for New York State Department of State.  Olsen oversees day-to-day operations and the administration of federal and state-funded programs designed to assist the more than 3.7 million older adult residents in the state, as well as programs that assist family members and others involved with helping older adults needing greater levels of assistance.  Beyer promotes the principles of smart growth on the state, regional and local level in New York.  He also serves as a planner for several of Governor Cuomo’s NY Rising Community Reconstruction communities on Long Island.

HVHM is a non-profit organization founded in 2009 by area residents who themselves wanted to stay in their homes and then decided to help others age 50 and older stay in their homes too, where they could lead active and independent lives.  HVHM offers a range of home-based services to seniors including help with errands; transportation to shopping, medical appointments, and social events; and help with light home repairs, computer support, and assistance around the house.  HVHM also organizes senior events that include luncheons, trips, educational programs and group activities.

Admission is free.  RSVP to 845-452-4846 or info@hvhomematters.org.  For more information on HVHM visithvhomematters.org.
