MILLBROOK – Reverend Monsignor James T. O’Connor, 77, passed away on Sunday July 10, 2016 in Englewood, Florida. Born on May 7, 1939 in White Plains, New York to James Patrick and Sarah Alice (Winters) O’Connor. He was a graduate of Cardinal Hayes High School, Bronx, New York. After completing studies at St. Joseph Seminary, Yonkers, New York, he was ordained to the Priesthood by Francis Cardinal Spellman on May 28, 1966 in St. Patrick’s Cathedral. After ordination he studied Spanish in the University of Puerto Rico. Upon his return he was assigned as Parochial Vicar to the Church of Sts. Peter and Paul in the South Bronx. In September 1969 he was sent to Rome for Post Graduate Studies at the University of St. Thomas Aquinas (The Angelicum). Upon returning from Rome he was assigned to the Faculty of St. Joseph’s Seminary, Yonkers. He was appointed to the Board of Archdiocesan Censors, the Spiritual Director of the Legion of Mary for the Archdiocese of New York and the Regional Senatus. He was named a Monsignor in 1990. Monsignor O’Connor authored four scholarly books: The Eucharist and the Rule of Christ, The Hidden Manna, The Father’s Son and The Land of the Living. After 22 years teaching at the Seminary he was named the Pastor of St. Joseph’s Church, Millbrook, New York on July 1, 1994 until his retirement on July 1, 2014. He retired to Englewood, Florida.

Monsignor O’Connor is survived by his brother William O’Connor and his wife, Sherry, and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents and his sister, Mary Ellen O’Connor Creeden.

Arrangements are as follows: the wake will take place on Thursday July 14, 2016, 1:00pm to 5:00pm in St. Joseph’s Church, Millbrook, N.Y. The Mass of the Holy Eucharist will be offered on Thursday evening at 7:00pm. The Celebrant will be Bishop Peter J. Byrne and the homilist will be Rev. Mark Vaillancourt. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, July 15, 2016 at 11:00am in St. Joseph’s Church, Millbrook, N.Y. The Celebrant will be Bishop Gerald T. Walsh and the homilist will be Rev. Michael Morin. Burial will follow the Funeral Mass in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Millbrook, N.Y.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Joseph’s Church, Millbrook, New York.
