Poughkeepsie man charged with endangering the welfare of disabled man in Amenia

Amenia, New York – On May 23, 2016, the New York State Police from Dover Plains arrested Leon Nicalek, 60 years old, of Poughkeepsie, New York, for Endangering the Welfare of an Incompetent or Physically Disabled Person in the 2nd Degree, a Class A Misdemeanor.

On May 22, 2016, Troopers responded to the Taconic Developmental Disabilities Services Office (DDSO) located on Sinpatch Road to investigate the report of a staff member striking a client. An investigation revealed that Nicalek became frustrated with a mentally handicapped person who he subsequently slapped on his head causing no injuries.

Nicalek was issued an appearance ticket directing him to appear before the Town of Amenia Court on June 7, 2016 at 6:00pm.
