An exciting photographic exhibition is coming to the Millbrook School’s Hamilton Math and Science Center Gallery, opening November 14. It honors Millbrook’s Cultural Treasure, the machine tools of Arrowsmith Forge. The machines were found and salvaged by Fletcher Coddington and have been used to manufacture furniture and decorative objects for the home and office for over 40 years. Some date back to WWI and were originally used to make bullets and weapons. Fletcher’s innate knowledge of geometry and ingenuity of design repurposed several machines to make the parts needed to not only execute his designs but to manufacture parts for repair when none could be found.

The exhibition is titled, “Metal on Metal,” because Helen Hamada’s portraits of the machines are sensitively printed on brushed aluminum. They capture the history, character and personality of each machine that plays a vital role in the history of Arrowsmith Forge.
