Artwork by DCC Alum, Current Yale Grad Student to be Displayed

September 28, 2015 – A series of paintings and other pieces created by Dutchess Community College alumnus and current Yale master’s degree candidate Alteronce Gumby will be on display in DCC’s Mildred I. Washington Art Gallery Oct. 6-30.

An artist’s talk will be held in the gallery Oct. 7 at 1 p.m. as well as an opening reception that same day at 5 p.m. Both are free and open to the public.

The work will consist primarily of paintings, but also will include photography, ceramics and installation art. The show’s title, “Alteronce Gumby: Since 1985,” reflects the artist’s journey to come to terms with himself and his unique name as the environment around him changes.

Gumby graduated from DCC in 2011 and earned his bachelor’s degree at Hunter College before being accepted into Yale’s master of fine arts degree program.

The gallery is in the Allyn J. Washington Center for Science and Art on DCC’s main Poughkeepsie campus. Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

For more information, call Gallery Director Margaret Craig at (845) 431-8617.
