USA PARTY SCHEDULED FOR SEPTEMBER 15th

The music of World War II era will be back again as the Dutchess County Office for the Aging’s Senior Friendship Centers have scheduled their annual USA Party for Tuesday, September 15th between10 A.M. and 2 P.M..  If you love the music of the 1940s, make plans to join the fun and enjoy a delicious stuffed chicken breast lunch.   Military uniforms and other red, white and blue style dress are encouraged.  If you’ve never been to a Senior Friendship Center, this is a great way to get to know the friendly participants at the one near you.

There is a suggested donation of $3.00 for lunch for those 60 and over and a $4.00 charge for those under the age of 60.  Reservations are required and should be made before September 10th. Transportation may also be available. WILLS & TRUSTS SEMINAR

The August Caregiver Workshop will feature a free educational seminar on Wills, Trusts & Estates.  The program, which is open to the public, will be held on Wednesday, August 12 from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.at the Manor at Woodside, 168 Academy Street in Poughkeepsie.

The speaker for the event will be Rebecca Blahut, Attorney at Law McCabe & Mack LLP.  She willfocus on important legal documents, such as Wills, Trusts, Powers of Attorney, and Medical Directives. Practical tips will be provided regarding each document and its importance in planning for the future. Payment sources for long term care, both at home and in a nursing home, will also be discussed, with an explanation of Medicaid. Rebecca Blahut brings 12 plus years of experience as a practitioner concentrating in elder law and long term care planning.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Would you know where to go or what to do if the county experienced an emergency that required a mass dispensing of medication to residents?   The Dutchess County Department of Health needs YOU to help test its response plan in the event of a health emergency in the community on Wednesday, August 12 from 9 A.M.1 P.M. at the Mid-Hudson Civic Center in Poughkeepsie.

Please join the Department of Health for this important event to learn more about how Dutchess County is prepared to help you and your family in the event of an emergency.  To participate, register with Lisa Cardinale by email at lcardinale@dutchessny.gov or by calling 845-486-3565.  Participants will be asked to stand and walk for most of the drill event, so please plan accordingly.   Further details will be provided at the time of registration.
