2015 Mid-Atlantic Regional’s (15U)

Beekman 15U played in the Mid-Atlantic Regional’s held in Colonie, NY over this past weekend. They qualified due to their second place finish in the Eastern New York State Sectionals. A first time for these boys!

Friday, July 24, Jamestown, NY (Western NY Champs) v. Beekman. The pitching call for Beekman went to Kyle Diaz for the first game. Jamestown after 4 innings had a 6-1 lead on 4 unearned runs. Kyle Diaz allowed 2 earned runs but the defense made mistakes that lead to the extra runs. Beekman did not give up, scoring 2 in the 5th, 1 in the 6th and scored 1 more in the 7th but left the tying run on at 2nd base. A hard lost in a game that had Beekman scoring 5 earned runs. Marco Fratarcangeli came in to shut down Jamestown to keep Beekman in the game. The hitting stars were Patrick Burke, 2 hits (double), walk and 2 runs scored, also Matt Chibbaro, 2 hits (double), 1 run scored.

Saturday, July 25 (morning game), Beekman v. Paulino (Metro NY Champs). Christian Ross took the mound for the second game. Beekman in the first inning got off to an early 3-0 with the bases loaded double by Matt Chibbaro that cleared the bases. Paulino responded with 4 runs in the 1st to take the lead. Once again Beekmans defense had a let-down and went on to lose 12-3 with 9 unearned runs allowed as Christian Ross pitched a good game and went into the 6th inning before being relieved by Travis Santiago.

Matt Chibbaro provided all the runs with his double and Patrick Burke had 2 hits and scored a run. Beekman had a rare triple play when Paulino with runners on 1st and 2nd the batter hit a hard liner to Kyle Diaz who caught the ball before it hit the ground, threw to 2nd (James D’Alessandro) and then to 1st (Anthony Russo) to complete a 6-4-3 triple play.

Saturday, July 25 (afternoon game), South Colonie (Host Team) v. Beekman. Anthony Russo got the call for the third game. Beekman lost 12-0 as South Colonie played a solid game and was able to capitalize on Beekman mistakes. Beekmans offense was held to only 2 hits as the south Colonie pitcher had the boys off balance with some very good pitching.

Sunday, July 26, Beekman v. Mount Olive (Northern New Jersey State Champs). Marco Fratarcangeli took the mound for the 4th and final game for Beekman. In the 2nd inning Beekman exploded for 6 hits and 3 walks to score 8 runs and take an early lead. Travis Santiago and Anthony Russo both had 2 hits in the inning with Travis Santiago scoring twice to lead the offense. The defense played the way they had played during Districts and States. Marco Fratarcangeli pitched an excellent game and allowed the 2 runs. The first Regional win for Beekman 15U and a great win on a tough weekend.

Great run for these boys who played with the ups and downs and were complimented by the officials for their sportsmanship!

Coaches did a great job with at times, minimal players. Thank you to the coaches: Rob Vecchione, Matt Chibbaro and the score-keeper: Chris D’Alessandro for their help. I, Oscar Santiago as the manager want to thank the league and the parents for allowing me to coach the boys. It is always a pleasure! Last but not least thank you to all the boys for the way they played!
