Memorial Day Crackdown period results in 30 arrests in Dutchess County

During the Memorial Day Crackdown period of May 22, 2015 thru May 25, 2015 members of the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police, Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department, Town of Hyde Park Police Department, Town of East Fishkill Police Department, City of Poughkeepsie Police Department, City of Beacon Police Department,  Village of Millerton Police Department & Village of Red Hook Police Department conducted Impaired Driving details consisting of coordinated Saturation Patrols during the four day period.  The arrests included 23 impaired driving arrests as well as 7 other arrests.

These details were funded by the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee and the NYS STOP-DWI Foundation which once again awarded the Dutchess County STOP-DWI Program a “Crackdown Enforcement Grant” for the 2014-2015 Crackdown periods. The objective of this continued enforcement grant is to revitalize and enhance the visibility of the STOP-DWI Program through coordinated multi-agency impaired driving enforcement details targeting identified statewide crackdown periods. They also include the assignment of certified Drug Recognition Experts (DRE) to aid in the identification and apprehension of drivers impaired by drugs other than alcohol.

“I acknowledge the commitment of law enforcement personnel countywide. The “Impaired Driving Crackdown” enforcement efforts once again demonstrate the effectiveness of this focused, coordinated, multi agency campaign. With the start of the summer season it sends a clear message that impaired driving enforcement is a priority in Dutchess County.  State, County, and municipal police will continue to be out in force to identify and apprehend those who choose to drive impaired. If you take the chance and are caught, you will be arrested and prosecuted. No warnings, No excuses” stated Dutchess County STOP-DWI Coordinator William Johnson.
