Marist Welcomes the Class of 2019
Move-in Day kicks off the 2015-16 academic year

Poughkeepsie (August 28, 2015) – Marist welcomed the Class of 2019 on Saturday, August 29, when approximately 1,200 freshmen students arrived on campus to formally join the College community.

The Class of 2019 is one of the most geographically diverse in the history of the College, with more than 55 percent coming from outside New York State. The states that have seen the most growth in recent years in terms of representation in incoming Marist classes are Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Maryland, Maine, Mississippi, New Hampshire, and Oregon.

This year’s freshmen class also includes a growing number of international students; 40 members of the class come from abroad, representing Brazil, Bulgaria, China, Italy, Somalia, and Sweden, among other countries around the world.

On the flip side of the international experience, 45 members of the Class of 2019 will begin their Marist careers at the College’s Florence branch campus as part of the Freshman Florence Experience program.

New students and their families were assisted by 520 upper-class students, who delivered the bulk of student belongings directly to their rooms using trucks and “bucket brigades.”

New and returning students are witnessing significant new development at Marist’s main campus as the Fall semester begins, including a new science and allied health building, which is scheduled for a January 2016 opening, and the early stages of the first, two-building phase of the new North Campus Housing project, which will provide 465 additional beds starting in the Fall 2016 semester.
